Welcome to France à la Carte

Welcome to France à la Carte.net, — but you may know us by our former name: Provence On Your Plate. Connie BarConnieney Wilson has been introducing food enthusiasts to the delights of France since she formed the original company back in 1993. Now Connie has moved year-round to France with her husband Andy and, well, things just snowballed from there! France à la Carte pulls together the full range of tours, activities and services now offered.

Tours and Retreats

We specialize in revealing the true French experience, whether it's cooking, eating or just seeing the sights you're interested in. We can take you to the one-man bakeries, the small goat cheese makers and the other artisanal food-producers whose art is slowly dying. We can take you to the best markets, the most atmospheric and dreamy towns and villages, and we can introduce you to treasured French friends who invite you into their homes. We know the best wine-tasting caves, up-and-coming restaurants and shopping experiences — the list is endless. And if cooking is your thing (and even if it isn't!) we have access to some of the best cooking talents in France for unforgetable classes.

We stay in charming hotels and villas and private homes, dine in some of the best restaurants and gather experiences only available to those with an inCafe Society...sider's knowledge. If you appreciate good food and the traditional lifestyle of France this is for you!

Custom Tours and Itineraries

Every year, we plan, organize and personally lead tours customized to suit the individual desires of clients. Whether you’re a couple who don’t want to have to navigate the narrow country roads, a few busy professionals with no time to study for and plan a vacation, or twenty members of a special-interest club of enthusiasts, we can plan and deliver a tour of any length with just about any budget to suit your particular interests.

Provence (8 days)

ImageContact us for dates.

My tours of Provence have evolved over the years to keep them fresh and appealing and more and more away from the over-hyped crowded tourist traps beloved of the tour buses. We can therefore focus on the true beauty and fascination of this fabulous region of France without fear of being just part of a herd.

We always travel as a small group, and this particularly allows us to sample the best the region has to offer.  Recent years have seen us based increasingly in the lesser known Mont Ventoux area, away from the increasingly crowded Luberon.  Consequently our tour has the distinct feel of fresh and wonderful new discovery.  Of course some popular sites are truly unmissable, like the world-famous market at Isle sur la Sorgue and the enormous legacy of perched villages and relaxed cities in the sun that make Provence what it is.

We visit the artisanal food producers, fabulous restaurants and dreamy markets.  Our cooking classes use the best of local produce demonstrated by the talented chefs of the region. Above all there is ample opportunity to step away from hectic modern life and experience a slower pace and quality of life. Oh, and we have a lot of fun along the way. Join us!

Loire Valley (8 days)

Image
Chenonceaux
Contact us for dates.

Eight days among the great chateaux and vineyards of the Loire Valley. From the majesty of Chenonceaux to the might of Chinon, from the charm of Azay-le-Rideau to the splendour of Chambord, this is a truly fine area to explore. Kings and Queens of France and England made the Loire Valley their home for centuries, and we can reap the rewards of their legacy.

The fine wines of Chinon, Bourgeuil, Montlouis and Vouvray, the gastronomy from which much of France takes its inspiration, and the age-old traditions live side-by-side with a thriving modern community.

Our travels take in the major goat cheese appellation of St Maure, the magnificent gardens of Villandry, the small-town markets and the royal palaces. We'll dine in a Michelin-starred 12th century inn once frequented by Balzac, and sample local delights such as rillettes de porc, sandre au beurre blanc and poires tapées.
